Nearly 20 years ago, José Moro and siblings, the third generation of the family wine cellar Emilio Moro, started up an ambitious project that would set up the basis of modern wine making in Ribera del Duero. Cepa 21’s original objective was to produce, using Tempranillo grapes as the main ingredient, wines that were based on wine making tradition and the region’s own terroir, but according to modern new trends. All in all, pure breed wines for consumers from the twenty first century.

A wine whose roots are anchored in the most authentic viti-viniculture traditions of the Ribera Del Duero but with an innovative vocation. Cepa21 is the wine selected by the third generation of the Moro family to represent their passionate desire to elaborate a wine in an ideal enclave where the climate, the exposure and the soils align together to produce excellent quality grapes. In this geographic enclave, the only thing missing was a clone of Tempranillo to produce the reference wines that exist today.

Cepa 21 is produced from a selection of the winery’s highest vineyards, between 850 and 900 meters above sea-level. Vineyards which are able to give us a raw material that is potent, structured and with a particularly rich aromatic palette. This becomes obvious in the glass where the varietals control the ensemble and subdue an oak that finally becomes mixed with the primary aromas, something that is no coincidence because it is precisely the richness of the varietal aromas that is the protagonist throughout the process of elaboration. On the palette the sensations are warm and smooth but still maintain a marked wine feel, characteristic of it structure and long ripening.
