100% Pinot Nero. Only wines from varietal grapes grown on selected slopes in Graun, near Kurtatsch, which undergo a very strict selection, are represented in this Castel Turmhof Selection. 80% of the vines grow at 300-400m above sea level but the newest vines are grown at 800-900m. This requires two separate harvests to ensure ripeness of all grapes and ensures that the fruit and acidity are consistent, even in hotter vintages. This red wine acquires its characteristic softness and depth through subsequent aging in small oak barrels.

Founded in 1848, the Tiefenbrunner Castel Turmhof Winery owes its name to the ancient castle that hosts the Tiefenbrunner family. The winery is located in Entiklar, a hamlet belonging to the town of Kurtatsch in the South Tyrolean province of Bozen, embedded in the amazing Italian Alps. Herbert Tiefenbrunner and his son, Christof, are expert winemakers: they maintain complete control over all operations, from the harvest through the transformation of the juice into excellent, world renowned wines. Their expertise is highly regarded well beyond the borders of South Tyrol. The estate produces about 700,000 bottles per year, 70% of them contain fine and zesty whites, the remaining 30% are lively and elegant red wines. Tiefenbrunner’s vineyards are located along the enchanting Südtyroler Weinstrasse, the Wine Route of South Tyrol, in one of the most beautiful wine growing areas in Alto Adige. The vines are grown mostly on the mountain slopes around the Turmhof Castle, but some are also located in the flatter areas of the valley. The primarily southward-facing slopes and their loamy, chalk rich soils represent the best environment for producing high quality wines. The Mediterranean climate, characterized by a moderate rainfall, and the cooling evening winds, allow for a substantial difference between day and night temperatures, providing the ideal conditions for the perfect ripening of the grapes. Rich in extracts and potent in aroma, the grapes are turned into wines of unmistakable character. The philosophy of the Tiefenbrunner family, in the vineyards as well as in the cellar, is to relentlessly improve the grape quality and to highlight the varietal character of each wine. Tiefenbrunner produces over 20 types of quality wines, and each bottle receives the attentive care of the two expert winemakers and owners. Many international awards testify that all of their efforts have proven worthwhile. These awards exemplify the quality that results from generations of experience.
