100% Chardonnay. This wine, to put it plainly, is just delicious. Pouilly-Loché is one of the great unknown micro-appellations of Southern Burgundy. Despite its AOC status dating back to the 1940s, we are unaware of another producer who imports estate-bottled wines from this small and important region. The appellation sits in the Mâcon nearby such well-known places as Pouilly-Fuiseé and accounts for a mere 32 hectares, overall. 30% of the designated land belongs to Domaine Clos des Rocs and provides this estate with the opportunity to produce some uniquely mineral driven, exciting, lively, textured bottlings that show a more linear and focused glass of wine than neighboring Pouilly-Fuiseé. It is this tension, this natural dichotomy of terroir, which drives us just wild. Of their seven rare wines produced, we find this “Les 4 Saisons” to be one of the most expressive and clear examples of the delicate balance between and among its various dynamic elements: a succulent core of ripe orchard and Meyer lemon fruit replete with crispy edges, persistent minerality, racy acidity, and a finish that seems to go on for minutes. Produced in the northwest hamlet of Loché, this cuvée of two parcels is comprised of 40-year-old vines and should be simultaneously revered for its rare complexity, and drunk with reckless abandon. This is the good stuff, friends. Naturally, this wine is organic from start to finish with no use of chemical products on the farm. Produced using only indigenous yeasts after strictly hand-harvesting, elevage here is split between stainless steel and neutral oak barrel. A delight on special occasions or an indulgence on a ‘school night,’ this wine is at home on the dinner table with food that complements its rich variations of flavor, experience, and aroma, while maintaining a certain charming and accessible clarity. Pair with our recommended bistro mushroom sauce served over your favorite poultry or pork.

PAIR WITH ROAST CHICKEN, PORK CHOPS, LOBSTER.
