Vignalta Colli Euganei Rosso DOC, 2016

Merlot 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40%.  A compelling Bordeaux-style blend with old-world grace and world-class affordability. This terrific rosso is grown on the highest altitude vineyard site in the Veneto’s Colli Euganei zone. A crimson-garnet color in the glass, the wine offers a cool, inviting bouquet of sour cherries, dried herbs, rose petals, and clay. Brisk and vibrant on the palate, the Venda rosso presents a core of spicy cherry and red plum fruit framed by brisk acidity and complex suggestions of tobacco, cedar, button mushrooms, and vanilla. The finish is long, with pie cherry, currant, and herb-tinged notes. Serve this beauty with all red meats, poultry, game and stews rich in beans. Enjoy now and over the coming five years.Founded in 1980 by Lucio Gomiero, Vignalta is now one of the most interesting estates of the Euganean Hills (Colli Euganei). With grapes grown on about 50 hectares of vineyards, Vignalta produces 250,000 bottles annually. The Euganean Hills, with their volcanic soils, are particularly rich in minerals and have a mild climate, which allow for extraordinary grapes. Since 1994, Vignalta has vinified the grapes grown in its own vineyards in the modern cellar at Arqua` Petrarca. The cellar is completely carved into the rock, and is ideal for aging wine in oak barrels at constant temperature and humidity.
