description

In high elevation loess, sand and gravel soils, Hans and Uli Setzer farm Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Roter Veltliner and Zweigelt. Their village, called Hohenwarth means “high place” and the elevation here is noticeable. Driving to the edge of the Weinviertel here from the Kamptal one feels the climb up to 900 meters. This husband and wife team of enologists produce some of the most distinctive wines in this part of Austria.

Setzer’s liter bottling feels different from anything else – one feels the elevation in the slightly higher level of acidity making this wine “sing in a different register”. The texture runs more to light to medium in body for GV and often shows floral notes in conjunction with classic straw, wheat and savory flavors that the variety is known for.
