Montesecondo Silvio Messana "Ghazii" Sangiovese Vino Frizzante, 2021

100% Sangiovese.

From organically farmed and hand-harvested Montesecondo fruit. The whole clusters are pressed and the must fermented spontaneously in tank without sulfur. It is bottled with around 10 g/liter of sugar remaining and finishes fermenting in the bottle. The wine is not fined or filtered or ever sulfured. The name references Silvio's North African upbringing: "Ghazii" with one "i" in Arabic means "sparkling" and with the double "ii" references the nickname for anti-colonial fighters.The label--featuring "Silvio Messana" and not "Montesecondo"-- and packaging--the clear bottle with a crown cap--indicates that Ghazii is part of Silvio's newer line of wines that depart in style and, in some cases, sourcing from his core Montesecondo wines.
