This wine is pulling the weight for the two regions farther south and farther inland, near the border where Tuscany meets Umbria and Abruzzo: Montepulciano and Montalcino. Poliziano is a mainstay of the former village and gives you a good understanding of what you get from Tuscany’s two warmest winegrowing regions. Poliziano displays much darker fruit possible in warmer climate Sangiovese like black cherry and plum; the wine is rounder with grippier, bigger tannins. If this one is your favorite of the bunch, that’s a good excuse to shell out on a Vine Nobile or Brunello when your next special occasion comes around (as this is a sumptuous foreshadowing for all that might follow).
