description

100% Teroldego. Local dialect for "vine shoot", "Sgarzon" is a cooler, sandier 2.5 hectares within the whole Foradori vineyard around the winery on the Campo Rotaliano plateau in the foothills of the Dolomites. Elisabetta planted the vines in guyot from massale cuttings in 1984. The farming is certified-biodynamic and the harvest is by hand. The bunches are destemmed, with the grapes going directly into clay amphorae (tinajas from J. Padilla in Spain) for an open-top, spontaneous fermentation without sulfur; the vessels are then closed for 6-8 months of maceration. The wine is bottled without fining or flitering and with its only small dose of sulfur. Sgarzon and its identically made companion wine, Morei (from a warmer, stonier site nearby) develop more quickly in clay than the foudre-aged Foradori and Granato and are thus released earlier.

"Trentino, with its location straddled by the Adriatic and Lake Garda to the south and the Dolomite mountains to the north, is the perfect backdrop for the electric and brave winemaking of mother and son duo Elisabetta and Emilio Foradori... her fully extracted Teroldego’s are to die for. These range from the structured yet juicy base cuvée to the complex and age-worthy single vineyard “Morei” and “Sgarzon”, and the world class old vine “Granato” cuvée... I love Foradori perhaps more than any other winery in the world right now. Not only because Elisabetta and her son Emilio’s wines are world class, but also because of they have an unrivaled ability to shatter expectations. When learning about wine, it’s incredibly important keep an open mind and constantly check in on your preconceived notions, there’s a Foradori waiting right around the corner to prove you wrong" - JWK, Summer Catalogue 2022
