Aged wine is delicious...and, rare.  It's unusual that we can stop ourselves from drinking it young.  It's unusual that the wine is stored perfectly under optimal temperature and humidity and light conditions.  It's unusual that the aging process, itself, is curated with enough care to ensure a thoughtful and delicious and unique experience many years into the future...

Well, I found something very special.  And, delicious.  And, unique.  And...affordable.  Not to be missed.  This wine is part of a larger purchase...if you care to go on a deep dive, be sure to scoop a bottle of each!

Sant’Elena “Tato’” Cabernet/Merlot Blend 2006. Intense ruby color with exuberant aromas of wild berries and blackberries, hints of licorice and light tones of coffee beans.  On the palate, a warm, long and enveloping world of flavors, earthy balanced tannin and a finish that goes on for minutes.  We like this wine with anything mushrooms.  Risotto?  Pasta?  Have you cooked morels anytime recently?  They are spectacular here with a grilled steak.

What I want you to do, if I have a vote, is to scoop up some of these and find an excuse in the next month or so to drink them.  Could the 2001 'Ros di Rol' "keep going and age for another _______..." yes.  And the 2006 'Tato'?  Absolutely.  But, let's huddle up on this and find a common and delicious ground.

I stood out back of our farmhouse property in Litchfield last week and simply couldn't believe these aged treasures...that's the experience I want to share with you.  Uniquely ready-to-go.

The 19th century Sant’Elena vineyard estate is situated in Friuli by the banks of the Isonzo River in the northeastern corner of Italy bordering Slovenia. It was established before Italy became a republic—during a period when the region was successively occupied by the Hapsburgs, the Venetians, the Austria-Hungarian empire, and the Slavs.  Today, Sant’Elena is a modern wine estate, owned and run by the Nocerino family, famous for introducing the wines of Angelo Gaja, Fontodi, Felsina, Braida, and other top Italian wine producers in the US. A new winery was built and vineyards have been replanted over the past decade. It strives to produce wines that are strongly identified with the region.
