This wine is: Cabernet from Southern California. Very special wine.
Cabernet Sauvignon is very popular and for good reason. The right example is downright delicious. Check out this instant Classic.
While the Judgement of Paris and other related international “competitions” and events brought the Napa Valley and nearby Sonoma into the limelight, our staff and sommeliers throughout the World often favor wines from the deeper South in California.
Full-bodied, fruit forward red wine but reflecting crunchier fruit and a charming, if unexpected, salinity when grown in the Santa Ynez Valley, a reasonably short drive from the Pacific Ocean.
I look for ripe black cherry and black currant fruit, baking spice, black pepper, graphite, and sometimes cedar if the wine spends some time in barrel.
For a good one, it’s all about the producer and we have you covered. Cabernet can be a tricky value so be sure to ask for a recommendation when shopping. A longtime favorite wine of mine was Three Saints Winery…in recent years with some shift in focus and branding, I haven’t seen it in market. Enter Roman Ceremony Cabernet Sauvignon from Santa Ynez. Crafted by my dearest friends Eric and Lyle Railsback, this juicy and delicious classically-styled red wine finds a comfortable home on any table, whether a special occasion with fine steak, or a simple night of takeout pizza from the corner. Looking to curl up with a favorite book? 100%.
Cabernet Sauvignon is a nice bottle to “have on hand” and Allie and I generally have a shy half-case of Roman Ceremony in the pantry. Charming to bring as a host gift to your next dinner party, or good to open latenight when some of your houseguests have gone to bed and the night owls are gathered by the fire.
Conclusion: Worth it and delicious. Roman Ceremony Cabernet Sauvignon and other Southern California wines deserve your attention. They represent tremendous value and prove reliably tasty again and again.
