Sancerre in less than 60 Seconds.
This wine is: Sancerre Blanc. Very special wine.
100% Sauvignon Blanc, white Sancerre is a French wine produced in the eastern part of the Loire valley almost entirely on the left bank of the Loire river, opposite Pouilly-Fumé on an outcrop of the chalk running from the White Cliffs of Dover down through Champagne and Chablis.
In the glass I want citrus, mineral-driven acidity, mouth-watering underripe fruit. pithy power gun flint, smoke, preserved lemon.
For a good one: $36-$48. Go for the specific: A Domaine, single vineyard, a lieu dit.
On the table to pair: Line caught swordfish or my kid’s favorite “fish stick tacos” with homemade slaw. Or, a crisp green salad with fresh herbs and a little pan-friend goat cheese like Alice Waters from Chez Panisse would serve.
Conclusion: Worth it. Sometimes over-celebrated, but see through the noise.
