A lovely bottle of Longmorn, distilled in 2005 and then laid to rest in both first fill sherry hogsheads and refill bourbon barrels. There it stayed until 2019, when indie bottler Gordon & MacPhail emptied the casks. The single malt was bottled and released for the Distillery Labels series, which aims to showcase rare and delicious whiskies, often adorned with funky retro labels.
Nose: Sweet liquorice, sherried dried fruits and orange marmalade, with nougat, allspice and macaroons.
Palate: Black pepper mingles with sweeter sherry notes, with red grapes, toasted nuts with a drizzle of honey, roasted coffee bean and fresh espresso, and more of that tangy orange marmalade.
Finish: Drying and spicy, with oily nuts and juicy raisin.
