Garnacha in Less than 60 Seconds
This is Garnacha. Or Garnatxa. Or Grenache. She's got multiple names, multiple passports. While France has made Grenache a heavy-hitter of the Rhône in crus like Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape or in the typical "GSM" blend, Spain is still the first place this grape called home, often found in Catalunya.
The 4 Monos ‘GR-10' Tinto is an excellent example, both of what a good buy is, and the honest character of this grape. The winemakers (who met while hiking the GR-10 trail in the mountains that grace us with these wines) strive for an expression that shows a sense of place to any varietal they handle. That sense of place is what drives the deep notes of strawberry, cherry, a bit of leather, and soft tannin into the glass of anyone looking for a perfect end-of-Summer-greet-the-Season red.
Garnacha isn't a gatekeeper with a good bottle ranging from about $18-35.
If you want pulpo, Garnacha. If you want barbecue, Garnacha. If you want a cheeseburger, the choice is obvious, Garnacha.
