Sangiovese in Less than 60 Seconds

This is Sangiovese.

It is the most widely planted grape in Italy, accounting for one in every ten vines on the peninsula.

Its spiritual home is in Tuscany, dominating the blends of Chianti, and world famous in Montalcino as "The Little Brown One". You will also find delicious expressions deep in the Green Heart of Umbria, or grown by adventurous winemakers in California's Santa Barbara County.

Sangiovese is budget-friendly and accessible, with a good bottle ranging from $18-40.

Castello di Argiano in Montalcino is home to the winery of Giugi Sesti, an astronomer turned loving Brunello producer, whose focus is on organic and biodynamic farming.

Giugi's vineyards sit on the enviable southern slopes of Montalcino, whose soils, rich in oceanic sediment and bathed in warm sunlight, are perfect for the slow-ripening and mineral driven Sangiovese. His 'Monteleccio' Toscana Rosso is a prime example of its freshness and accessibility.

Whether you're rushing to grab a sausage and mushroom pizza, whipping up a thoughtful Bolognese pasta, or slowing down to pan-sear a duck breast, the acidic, saline, dark cherry, and tomato leaf-flavored Sangiovese is worthy of your obsession.
