Claudio Mariotto 'Bricco San Michele' Timorasso Bianco Colli Tortonesi, 2019

Claudio Mariotto 'Bricco San Michele' Timorasso Bianco Colli Tortonesi, 2019

Regular price $30.00

This wine is made of 100% Timorasso, from Claudio Mariotto's youngest vines. We would pair it with a pasta dish from its more northerly neighbor in the Dolomites, called Pizzocheri. Pizzocheri is an Italian buckwheat pasta combined with potatoes, cabbage and lots of gooey Valtellina Casera cheese. Derthona Timorasso is a small DOC in Piedmont, Italy, and is seeing a revival, after the Timorasso grape almost went extinct. The wines of Derthona have a wonderful combination of acidity, depth, and complexity, and has been compared to higher quality Chenin Blanc or Riesling. The wine also has a distinctly textured mouthfeel, and is fuller for white wine. The Bricco San Michele is aged on heavy lees for 1 year in stainless steel, and another 12 months in bottle. The palate is warm and fruity, and texturally finishes with sharp flinty and mineral character.

Details

From the winery: The company consists of 54 hectares of vineyards between Vho and the municipality of Sarezzano, at an altitude between 250 and 300 m above sea level.
The company was founded in 1921 by great-grandfather Bepi, carried on by grandfather Salvatore and father Oreste.

Our vineyards enjoy a favorable microclimate, being close to the Apennines overlooking the Po Valley and influenced by the proximity of the sea which is only 60 km away as the crow flies.

We define our cultivation method as common sense agriculture, without the use of pesticides, with pruning and leaf removal that respects the vine.

Claudio Mariotto in the early 90s together with a few other local winemakers, believed in a now abandoned native vine like Timorasso to produce a great Piedmontese white wine for aging.

Claudio, thanks to his daily life in contact with the vineyard, decides to give value to his work by bottling the wine he produces.
