Sunday Night Supper: A Study of Slope
Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

This is a beautifully deep expression of skin-contact Cataratto, sourced from organically grown estate fruit. The grapes are manually harvested and the skins kept on the juice for two to three weeks, with indigenous yeasts kickstarting fermentation. No temperature controls are used, extracting as much structure and tannin from the skins as possible. Bottled unfined and unfiltered to truly go all in on a natural expression of the Cataratto grape. Fruity, rich, and slightly bitter, this wine is not funky at all. It is full of flavor, without all the unpleasant qualities that a hyper-natural, warm-fermented, skin-contact aromatic grape variety may impart. Enjoy with fried sardines, fresh tomatoes, tangy goat cheese and crusty sourdough, hopefully drizzled with your favorite olive oil.
