This wine is known for its unique and indulgent palete, perfect for the dinner table. With a hint of dark fruit and spice, this wine also boasts a delicate mineral note ready to be drunk tonight or cellared for many years. Enjoy with mushroom risotto and grilled pork chops.

The Gramolere vineyard is situated in Monforte d’Alba, within Piedmont’s Barolo zone. Set on steep slopes facing south–southwest, with elevations ranging between approximately 350–450 m above sea level, the site benefits from optimal sun exposure balanced by cooling breezes. Rich in calcareous clay, sand, limestone, and even fossil content in places—this mix imparts both finesse and structure to wines from the site.

Details

Wine Advocate (96): From a vineyard site in Monforte d'Alba, the Fratelli Alessandria 2021 Barolo Gramolere (with 7,000 bottles produced) shows a little more structure and power with tightly knit fruit, dark plum, ferrous earth and licorice. This vineyard comes to family ownership via the matriarch, Flavia Manzone, who was born in this village. Polished tannins push a smooth sailing mouthfeel. The 2021 Barolo Gramolere is a hugely promising wine. Black cherry, gravel, spice, new leather, licorice and crushed rocks add to an impression of gravitas. A dark, hulking wine, the 2021 is going to need time to be at its best. Today, it is a touch reduced, but a racking should take care of that.

This family has been making Barolo continuously for more than 100 years. Experience combined with a fresh approach introduced by Vittore (in charge of vinification since 2001) that defies being defined as either traditional or modern, has brought this estate to the highest level in Barolo. The vineyards of Verduno are predisposed toward elegant, “Burgundian” styled Barolo, and the meticulous low yield farming they employ adds a hint of power to the natural finesse. They are simply stunning across the board; power, complexity, elegance and value, yes you can have them all.
