Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

This wine is a vibrant and finely tuned expression of southern Beaune Pinot Noir, showcasing the elegance and subtle depth characteristic of old vines. In the glass, it presents a luminous ruby hue with delicate clarity. The nose opens with lifted aromas of wild red berries, tart cherry, and crushed raspberry, layered with hints of dried rose petal, forest floor, and a touch of savory spice. On the palate, the wine is lithe and energetic, with a core of pure red fruit framed by fine-grained tannins and a line of fresh acidity that brings tension and length. There’s a gentle earthiness and mineral undertone that anchors the wine, giving it a grounded complexity. While accessible now for its brightness and charm, the wine also has the structure to reward a few years of cellaring, allowing the nuances of its old-vine origin to further unfold.
