Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot; a True Left Bank Wine and Organically Farmed to boot! The second wine of famed Second Growth Château Durfort-Vivens (1855 Classification), this polished and expressive profile captures the finesse and aromatic elegance classic to the Margaux appellation. On the nose, it opens with lifted aromas of ripe blackcurrants, violets, and graphite, underscored by hints of cedar and subtle floral notes. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky texture, offering layers of dark berries, plum, and fine-grained tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the fruit. A gentle mineral edge and well-integrated oak add complexity, while the finish lingers with freshness and precision. Approachable in its youth yet structured enough for short- to mid-term aging, 'Les Plantes' is a vibrant and terroir-driven expression from the biodynamically farmed vineyards of Durfort-Vivens. You can stuff some in the Cellar for years and years to come, but, for at least one of the bottles, light the grill and prepare the perfect steak (or juicy hamburger) THIS WEEKEND...this powerful wine is 100% delicious.
