Sunday Night Supper: A Study of Slope
Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

This wine is made from equal parts Nero d'Avola and Frappato. It is the project of Giusto Occhipinti's sons (Arianna's cousins), and puts a great name in for the island of Sicily's only DOCG. This wine is amazing. Extremely floral and fruity on the nose, and followed up by equally intoxicating fruit and subtle hints of herbs on the palate. It is tied together by extremely soft but effective tannins, and refreshing acidity. On a late summer day, or an early spring evening, serve this with the slightest chill alongside fresh tomatoes and mozzarella, or with braised cabbage and ground pork, whichever is more in season.
