Sunday Night Supper: A Study of Slope
Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

100% Riesling. (AP 5) is a bright, vivid Riesling that Lars Carlberg in his 2025 notes describes as showing “lychee, pineapple, and vigorous” character. On the nose, expect juicy tropical fruit framed by a clear, crystalline minerality, while the palate delivers a lively interplay of sweet lychee and pineapple tempered by taut, zesty acidity and a salty-herbal undercurrent. Pair with lemongrass chicken or spring rolls, fresh shellfish like shrimp or scallops, or even a rich fruit-based dessert such as mango sorbet. In line with Carlberg’s 2025 commentary, the wine’s vigor and fresh, electric fruit energy balance sweetness with a steel-like backbone, making it both expressive now and capable of graceful evolution with a few years in the cellar.
