From the Winery:
Our acclaimed Bien Nacido Estate Chardonnay is sourced from our I & L blocks, that were planted on their own roots back in 1973. Elder and chamise shaly loams with plesanton sandy loam. The vineyard has a great diversity of soils containing elder and chamise shaly loams with plesanton sandy loam, limestone, shale, and uplifted marine volcanics. Much like in Burgundy, we harvest the oldest vines here exclusively for our Estate Chardonnay. Hand-harvested at night and whole-cluster pressed. This wine was then barrel fermented using native yeast and malolactic fermentation. Aging was sur lie for 16 months in French oak; 45% new. This wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
