This is all organic Gamay from an exemplary producer in the Beaujolais. The vineyards of the Côte du Py are situated on a large hill outside the quaint village of Villié-Morgon, on soils of blue granite and schist, which have been said to come from lava deposits after ancient geological formations took their course. The soils are so friable, crumbly, and nutrient poor that the vines have to search even further down for nutrients. The fruit that results is richer, fuller, and with more tannin and minerality than other Beaujolais wines. The Côte du Py cuvée is consistent with this, boasting serious stoney minerality, and dark fruit notes. Pair it with a juicy pork tenderloin with roasted potatoes and leeks.
