This is 100% Nebbiolo. Bright, medium ruby red with light garnet hues beginning to emerge at the rim — typical of youthful Nebbiolo. Elegant and expressive on the nose showing classic Nebbiolo aromatics: of fresh red cherries, wild strawberries, and raspberries, hints of rose petals, violet, and subtle licorice, and a touch of earthiness, dried herbs, and light tar Well-balanced between floral lift and savory depth. Medium-bodied on the palate with a linear, refined structure: red berry-driven, with notes of cranberry and pomegranate. Firm but fine-grained tannins, youthful and slightly grippy, promising development with bright and refreshing acidity, giving great lift and length. Pair with grilled sausages and baked stuffed mushrooms.

The village of Barbaresco in the Langhe region is the home of Azienda Agricola Musso with its vineyards and winery. The family is so tied to the life of this small village that two members of the Musso family were mayors in the past. In this village dedicated to wine, the Musso winery has developed its own history, whose features often coincided with broader events that have marked the path of the entire society.

The Musso winery was founded in 1929, in one of the most critical moments of the Italian economy and of the world, the Great Depression. Yet, Sebastiano Musso, born in 1906, did not lose heart. Even after having been left alone at a young age with the untimely death of his father, he found the strength to continue with his efforts to establish a small winery in Barbaresco.

Sebastiano did not have a lot of land to cultivate, only “3 giornata piemontese”(2.62 giornata equals 1 hectare). One patch of land in the area of Cavanna and one on the hillside of Ronchi; it was small, but enough to make a start. While he continued the work of the family, cultivating the vineyards, he started producing his own wine.

In the sixties, Sebastiano’s son Augusto started working in the winery and brought the enthusiasm of youth. The winery benefited and in the following years, Sebastiano and Augusto expanded their vineyards with the purchase of a plot on the hill of Pora and an entire farm in Rio Sordo.

It was in 1966 that Barbaresco, the wine to which his father Sebastiano had dedicated his life, had become a DOC wine and this recognition had created great interest for the wine.

Valter Musso, a young winemaker who joined the family winery in the mid-eighties, today is a mature man and head of the winery, overseeing the responsibilities in the vineyard and the winery to produce quality wine. But he is not alone, there is also the next generation, his son Emanuele, who supports him with marketing the wine and his grandson, Luca Accornero, who takes care of the work in the vineyards.
