Domaine Garon 'La Part des Vivants' Côtes du Rhône Rouge, 2022

Domaine Garon 'La Part des Vivants' Côtes du Rhône Rouge, 2022

Regular price $17.00

The Garon family boasts a rich history in the Northern Rhône Valley, tracing back to 1475 with Guillaume Garon. The modern era for Domaine Garon commenced in 1995 when they began bottling and selling their own wines after a significant replanting effort initiated in 1982. With 5 hectares of vineyards in Côte Rôtie, the estate features parcels on both Cote Blonde and Cote Brune, exclusively planted to 100% Syrah across the lieux-dits of Rochains, Triotes, Lancement, Combard, and Mollard. Domaine Garon embraces traditional methods, with whole-bunch crushing and varying levels of destemming based on the vintage. Vinification occurs in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in a combination of 30% new French oak and older barrels for 18 to 24 months.  Expect a wine that captures the essence of Côte Rôtie, characterized by its expressive dark fruit, elegant spice, and underlying minerality. The complexity is enhanced by notes of violet, leather, and subtle smokiness, reflecting both the terroir and the Garon family’s dedication to craftsmanship. This blend is beautifully complemented by dishes such as grilled lamb, rich stews, or aged cheeses, allowing the wine’s depth and character to shine. Enjoy the harmonious interplay of flavors!

Details

From our Importer: The Garon family have one of the longer histories in the Northern Rhone Valley that dates all the way back to 1475, starting with Guillaume Garon. However, the modern era for Domaine Garon begins in 1995, when they began to bottle and sell their own wine.

The Garon family began replanting the vineyards in 1982. At the time, the land had gone fallow, so it was quite an undertaking.

Small amounts of wine were made in 1992. They truly began producing a fair amount of wine by 1995.

Domaine Garon owns 5 hectares of vines in Cote Rotie. The vineyards are divided with some parcels on the Cote Blonde and other vines being planted on the Cote Blonde. Their vines are planted to 100% Syrah in the Rochains, Triotes, Lancement, Combard and Mollard lieux-dits.

Domaine Garon is a traditional Cote Rotie producer. The grapes are crushed in whole bunches. The amount of destemming varies, depending on the vintage. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wines are aged in an average of 30% new, French oak barrels and the remainder is aged in 5 year old barrels for between 18 to 24 months.

Varietals: Grenache, Syrah, Carignan
