This wine is 100% Riesling from a single vineyard in Alsace. The first of three single vineyard bottlings, the Lieu-dit Pfoeller is a restrained beauty. Reflecting undeniable characteristics of Riesling: The famous “petrol” note with fresh lemon, stone fruit, and white flowers. Evidence of lees contact deepens the palate and texture, and a pleasant elegant touch of faint sweetness and balanced acidity, this wine is rich and delicious. Rare as can be from just one single barrel comprising the entire cuvée. Pfoeller can be aged for years to come, but is delicious now. Good with lean cuts of beef and your favorite vegetarian dishes.

Details

The Pfoeller vineyard, a classified lieu-dit, is located on a fault zone with clay-limestone soil composed of “Muschelkalk”, the same as Clos-Sainte-Hune in the west and “Bajocien”, like Clos-Windsbuhl in the east. Harvested from several parcels, the “Erdhauser” planted in 1976 and the “Redhauser” planted in 1992 are the oldest. Soils from the Bajocian era are heavier and make for more hporizontal and ample acidities.
