Sunday Night Supper: A Study of Slope
Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

This wine is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot blended in as well. It is aged in equal parts French and American Oak, both new and used, for 24 months. The vines were planted in the 80's from cuttings that can trace their lineage back to a vineyard planted in the 1890's that used cuttings from Châtea Margaux. The wine has a lovely blue-fruited clarity layered with earthy tannins. It is supple, grippy, yet approachable, and will remain an excellent bottle of wine for years to come. Pair it with Beef Wellington, or Jamaican beef patties.
