Alois Lageder is one of Alto Adige's benchmark producers and has played a major role in shaping the international reputation of this small but remarkable wine region in northern Italy. Founded in 1823 as a wine merchant in Bolzano by Johann Lageder, the business gradually evolved into a wine estate as successive generations acquired vineyards and began producing their own wines. In 1934, the family purchased the historic Löwengang Estate in Magrè, which remains the winery's headquarters today. The estate is now run by the sixth generation of the Lageder family: siblings Alois Clemens, Helena and Anna Lageder.

Today, the winery farms its own vineyards while also working closely with around 60 grower partners across Alto Adige. Their philosophy centres on biodiversity, sustainability and expressing the region's diverse terroirs. Alois Lageder was one of Italy's early pioneers of biodynamic viticulture, converting the family vineyards in the 1990s and adopting a holistic farming approach that integrates cover crops, livestock, vegetable gardens and ecological diversity throughout the estate. Rather than viewing the vineyard as an isolated crop, the family sees the entire farm as a living ecosystem.

The portfolio reflects both tradition and innovation. Alongside classic Alto Adige varietal wines such as Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Schiava (Vernatsch), Lagrein and Gewürztraminer, the winery produces acclaimed single-vineyard "Crus" including the iconic Löwengang Chardonnay, one of Italy's pioneering age-worthy Chardonnays. They also experiment with unusual grape varieties, field blends and creative projects such as Misto Mare, a wine that celebrates diversity by blending more than 14 grape varieties from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards across the region.

Alois Lageder has become known not only for the quality of its wines but also for its forward-thinking philosophy. The winery's motto, "Diversity is Key," reflects its commitment to environmental stewardship, innovation and cultural exchange. Visitors to the estate can tour the vineyards and cellar, dine at the estate restaurant Paradeis, and experience a winery where wine, agriculture, art and sustainability are treated as interconnected parts of the same vision.
