Sunday Night Supper: A Study of Slope
Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

a vibrant, organically farmed expression of Cabernet Franc from the gravelly alluvial terraces along the Vienne River in Cravant, within the Chinon appellation of France’s Loire Valley. Sourced from hand-harvested vines and fermented with native yeasts before aging exclusively in concrete tanks, the wine emphasizes purity, freshness, and terroir over oak influence. The 2024 vintage opens with lifted aromas of wild raspberry, red cherry, crushed blackberry, violet, and a hint of graphite and fresh herbs. The palate is juicy and energetic, with silky tannins, bright acidity, and a refreshing mineral finish that makes it immediately approachable while retaining classic Chinon character. A natural partner for charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled pork, duck rillettes, mushroom dishes, or herb-crusted salmon, it is equally at home alongside a casual bistro meal or a simple cheese board featuring young goat cheese.
