Winemaker Francesco Annesanti plays an essential role in the wine’s individuality, embracing a hands-off approach with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts and allowing this unconventional Umbrian Barbera to express its natural freshness and character without excessive intervention. Produced in an exceptionally small quantity of only around 1,300 bottles, Nasciolo is a genuinely rare rosato and a compelling discovery for those seeking wines that fall outside the mainstream. Cantine Annesanti is a small, family-run estate in Valnerina, Umbria, founded and operated by winemaker Francesco Annesanti. Set in the village of Arrone, the estate takes an intensely artisanal approach to winemaking, working with old vineyards and indigenous grape varieties while favoring organic, low-intervention farming and cellar practices. Annesanti’s wines are fermented spontaneously with native yeasts and made with minimal manipulation, reflecting both the rugged character of the Valnerina landscape and the personality of the individual vineyards. The estate’s tiny production and unconventional choice of varieties, including Barbera for the distinctive “Nasciolo” Rosato, make it a particularly compelling discovery for enthusiasts interested in authentic, terroir-driven Umbrian wines produced well outside the region’s mainstream.
