Details

Located just northwest of the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, Château Fonroque is a historic estate with viticultural roots dating back to at least the 17th century. Acquired by the Moueix family in 1931, the property became a Grand Cru Classé in the inaugural Saint-Émilion classification of 1955. Under Alain Moueix's stewardship, the estate became a pioneer in sustainable viticulture, achieving organic certification in 2006 and biodynamic certification in 2008, making it the first Grand Cru Classé to achieve this distinction. Now owned by the Guillard family, who took over in 2017, the 17.6-hectare vineyard benefits from limestone plateau and clay-limestone hillside soils. The 2021 vintage is particularly notable as the first produced in the estate's new, state-of-the-art winery, reflecting its continued commitment to precision, terroir expression, and elegant winemaking.
