2012 Vintage Wine Report: The 2012 vintage of Selvapiana's single-vineyard Riserva reflects a warmer, drier growing season, yielding a more generous expression of Rufina Sangiovese. Ripe black cherry, raspberry, and dark plum lead the nose, followed by dried rose, new leather, balsamic herbs, clove, and a touch of mocha. The palate is concentrated yet poised, with finely textured tannins, lively acidity, and savory notes of tobacco and spice adding complexity to the ripe fruit. Now showing the beginnings of mature, tertiary character, it finishes long and structured, balancing warmth and richness with the freshness characteristic of Chianti Rufina.

This wine is made from 100% Sangiovese. This is Selvapiana's flagship wine from one of the smallest sub-regions of Chianti. Bucerchiale is Selvapiana's greatest vineyard, and leads to this special wine made to be aged and developed into the best Chianti Rufina has to offer. The wine is so special, it is only made in the best vintages, around 7 times every ten years. Pair it with a super special Fiorentina steak, grilled to perfection and served with crispy smashed potatoes garnished with rosemary, olive oil, and flaky sea salt.

From our Importer: Selvapiana is a 593 acre estate located in the Chianti Rufina appellation. The property was purchased in 1827 by Michele Giuntini Selvapiana who in turn sold it to Francesco Giuntini Antinori in 1957. The estate’s vineyards span 111 acres and are planted on a mix of galestro, limestone and clay soils. The long growing season allows the fruit to reach the proper levels of phenolic ripeness. In addition to Chianti Rufina, the portfolio also includes a Chianti Rufina Riserva Bucerchiale, and Fornace, a blend of the estate's Sangiovese and international varieties. The Selvapiana estate also manages Fattoria Petrognano, which produces Pomino Rosso.

Managers Silvia and Federico Giuntini Massetti work closely with Franco Bernabei, the consultant winemaker since 1978.
