This wine is made from 90% Tannat and 10% Cabernet Franc. The Madiran vineyard is located in Haut Béarn, more precisely in the heart of the Vic Bilh region, meaning "Old Country" in old French. Shaped by the Pyrenean moraines, the Madiran is a series of valleys oriented from South to North. Its multiple hillsides face east or west. This is best with beef stew or cassoulet.

Details

From our Importer: Chateau Peyros sets itself apart thanks to a very specific terroir and micro-climate. Planted over a significant rocky mass, Chateau Peyros is benefiting of a full south exposure. This exceptional sun exposure guaranties a greater photosynthesis for its vineyard, a greater maturation of its grapes and higher quality of its wine production.

Part of the Madiran appellation, Chateau Peyros is located in the heart of the Vic Bilh, or “old country”, in the local dialect. Shaped by Pyrenean moraines, the Madiran region is composed of a succession of south-north oriented valleys. Its multiple slopes have an east-west exposure.

The soil is composed of a conglomerate of rolled pebbles and clay called “pouzzolanes.” Chateau Peyros’s 49 acres of vineyard consists of Tannat (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).

Where tradition meets innovation, Chateau Peyros’s cellar, created by Emile Penaud, is one the most modern of the appellation. Fervent supporters of sustainable agriculture, the Lesgourgues family has reduced the use of chemicals by more than 40% since they took over the property.

For the last 8 years, Corinne, Chateau Peyros’ winemaker, has been creating the most exquisite wines from terroir of Madiran.

The Lesgourgues family business was created in 1974. Today, succeeding Maurice and Jean-Jacques Lesgourgues, is the third generation of vintners. Presently, the family owns five properties—-in Bas Armagnac (Château de Laubade), Graves, Madiran, and Côtes de Blaye—where they oversee wine production and commercial policies. The values that guide the company are tradition, innovation, and beauty.
