From our Importer: Viñas do Burato is a great introduction to both D. Ventura and Ribeira Sacra. The wine comes from the Burato vineyard, a steep, schist-covered site overlooking the Miño River where cooler temperatures and higher rainfall produce especially vibrant, fresh wines. Ramón Losada farms the vineyard using organic practices, harvesting everything by hand before fermenting the fruit with native yeasts in stainless steel. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its purity and sense of place. The blend is primarily Mencía with a small amount of Merenzao, a traditional Galician variety that adds perfume and lift.

A bit of context on the producer: Ramón Losada is a veterinarian by trade who tends just a handful of hectares of family vineyards in Ribeira Sacra. He and his sister Belén began bottling their wines in 1999 after years of making wine only for themselves. Their philosophy is simple, letting the vineyards speak with minimal intervention in both the vineyard and cellar, which has made D. Ventura one of the benchmark names for honest, expressive Mencía from the region.
