This wine is 100% Pinot Noir from a single vineyard in Burgundy. Mercurey's growing season is typically long and dry, making for Burgundy with a bit more body. This bottling is no exception with stewed cherries, wild strawberries, earth and clove on the palette. A few more years of aging will reward you, but will open up with a quick decant as well. Pair with Oeufs en Meurette or Boeuf Bourguignon.

Details

Always the most regal and elegant of the quartet of reds from the domaine, this comes from a monopole of the domaine. The “clos” is 1.9 hectares. Many different soil types are within this site and the age of the vines varies, with parts of the vineyard planted in 1989, 1986, 1980, 1964, and 1955. Production is in the neighborhood of 575 cases per annum. Curiously, the vineyard faces north-northeast but this exposure works to produce a wine of great finesse with superb aging potential. Habitually, this wine is marked by exuberant notes of wild berries and a lively presence on the palate, the firm tannins giving excellent length and persistence.

Vintage 2015: Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage.
Vintage 2016: Fresh, juicy and elegant, revealing dark fruit flavors; spring frosts drastically reduced yields in some areas
