Sunday Night Supper: A Study of Slope
Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

100% Syrah. Bright and inviting...red cherries and glossy red plums up front, with a little licorice and a whisper of spice. On the palate it’s medium-bodied, fairly supple with a lively mineral-edge, gentle tannins and a touch of smokiness; the finish is fresh, slightly spicy, and easy-going. Pair with grilled sausages or merguez, a peppery steak, tomato-based pasta (like puttanesca or bolognese), or even a hearty ratatouille or eggplant-laden dish. Its red-fruit and spice character complements savory, rustic, and Mediterranean-style comfort food.
