Sunday Night Supper: A Study of Slope
Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

Made from 100% Plant de Blanc pears, from the Domfrontais appellation in the south of Normandy. The pears are stocked in wooden boxes for 36 hours after harvest for further ripening, before naturally fermented for 3 months. The cider is disgorged like chamapagne, after being stored upside down in crown caps. Boy is it good. A candied pear like sweetness over a bed of herbs, hay, and yeasty aromatics. It is creamy, with relaxed acidity and tons of structure. Come and get it while you can, this might be the best pear cider you've ever tasted! P(ear) it with a spicy hot honey fried chicken sandwich, or a shrimp bouillabaisse.
