100% Chenin Blanc. A deeply expressive, age-worthy sweet wine, combining ripe quince, baked apple, apricot, honey, saffron, and exotic fruit with a striking mineral and chalky freshness. The palate is rich and concentrated but remarkably precise, with around 64 g/L residual sugar balanced by Chenin’s vibrant acidity, finishing long, spicy, and saline. The 2017 vintage was made without a Reserve cuvée, relying instead on very ripe and partially passerillé fruit; fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts in older barrels, preserving the wine’s natural tension and complexity. Pair with foie gras, roasted or blue cheeses such as Roquefort, roast duck with fruit, apple or pear tart, or tarte Tatin.

Details

Domaine du Clos Naudin is one of Vouvray’s benchmark estates, with Philippe Foreau taking over the family domaine in 1983 as its third generation; his son Vincent joined him in 2017 and now leads the estate. The roughly 12-hectare domaine is devoted primarily to Chenin Blanc grown on the classic flint-clay and tuffeau limestone soils of Vouvray. Foreau’s wines are renowned for their purity, extraordinary longevity, and ability to balance sweetness with remarkable acidity and minerality. The estate has farmed according to organic principles for years, with certification beginning with the 2024 vintage, while cellar work remains deliberately traditional and low-intervention, relying on indigenous yeasts and older barrels.
