88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot; a True Left Bank Wine and Organically Farmed to boot! The second wine of famed Second Growth Château Durfort-Vivens (1855 Classification), this polished and expressive profile captures the finesse and aromatic elegance classic to the Margaux appellation. On the nose, it opens with lifted aromas of ripe blackcurrants, violets, and graphite, underscored by hints of cedar and subtle floral notes. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky texture, offering layers of dark berries, plum, and fine-grained tannins that provide structure without overwhelming the fruit. A gentle mineral edge and well-integrated oak add complexity, while the finish lingers with freshness and precision. Approachable in its youth yet structured enough for short- to mid-term aging, 'Les Plantes' is a vibrant and terroir-driven expression from the biodynamically farmed vineyards of Durfort-Vivens. You can stuff some in the Cellar for years and years to come, but, for at least one of the bottles, light the grill and prepare the perfect steak (or juicy hamburger) THIS WEEKEND...this powerful wine is 100% delicious.

Details

Château Durfort-Vivens, a distinguished Second Growth estate in Margaux, traces its origins to the 12th century with the noble Durfort de Duras family and formally took its name in 1824 under Viscount Robert-Adrien Labat de Vivens. Classified as a Deuxième Cru in the 1855 Bordeaux ranking and once praised by Thomas Jefferson, the estate experienced a revival when it was acquired by the Lurton family in the mid-20th century. Since 1992, Gonzague Lurton has overseen a remarkable transformation, pioneering organic and biodynamic viticulture—earning full Demeter certification by 2016, a first for any classified Margaux property. With 55–65 hectares of gravel-rich vineyards planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, the estate produces refined, terroir-driven wines known for their elegance and purity. Embracing modern techniques such as amphora aging, Durfort-Vivens today stands at the forefront of sustainable fine wine production, blending historic pedigree with innovative, ecoconscious winemaking.
