An Assyrtiko-dominant blend with smaller components of Athiri & Aidani. Grapes are sun-dried for two weeks after manual harvest. Spontaneously fermented in cement. Extremely long and careful aging in a mixture of thoroughly used Russian, French and Austrian oak barrels ranging in size from 300L to 1350L. Approx 300 g/L of RS. Bottled in 2025.

The wine caresses the palate with an infinite combination of sweetness, freshness and textural silkiness… This 1947 shows a savory side with tobacco, cigar box and dusty shavings of baking chocolate. But it also introduces an especially floral side with hibiscus or rose hip tea, with the tartness that comes with those infusions. It concludes with sugary sensations of baklava with the baked phyllo dough and sesame seed halva.” Wine Advocate: 100 Points

Details

These are not wines produced recently and held back. They are wines that were made, put away, and essentially forgotten until the family decided the time was right, seeing the hands of no fewer than four generations of the Argyros family in the process. The three vintages being released are 1982, 1974, and 1947. The 1947 Vinsanto was the first wine from Greece ever to receive a perfect 100-Point score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
