Sunday Night Supper: A Study of Slope
Jacky Blot (RIP 2023) is one of the truly great producers of Loire Valley red wine. Here, a deep(er) dive with a delicious conclusion.

100% Sangiovese. Fonterenza’s Alberello comes from a small bush-trained parcel in Montalcino, farmed organically and biodynamically. The Padovani sisters founded Fonterenza in the late 1990s after returning to their family’s countryside home, with their first vines planted in 1999. The 2021 shows bright cherry and wild strawberry, with notes of dried herbs, earth, cedar, lavender, and spice. Fresh acidity and fine tannins keep the wine light on its feet, with a savory finish and a touch of licorice. Pair with pappardelle with wild boar ragù, grilled pork, or roasted mushrooms.
