The distinctive Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno, from the historic Fratelli Alessandria estate, is a remarkably personal expression of Verduno. Fratelli Alessandria was the first estate to bottle Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno, releasing the inaugural vintage in 1997. Production remains tiny, with just 4,500 bottles made, making this a particularly special bottle to tuck away in the cellar and bring to the table when the occasion calls for something memorable.

The bouquet opens with a vein of delicate sweetness, offering wild cherry and raspberry that segue into bluebell blossom and lightly crushed chalk. On the palate, the wine is streamlined and lean in texture, with a delicate patchwork of red berry fruit carried gracefully across a silky finish. As is often the case with the 2022 vintage, the mid-palate favors finesse, freshness and aromatic lift over austere power. The result is a graceful and remarkably distinct Barolo with the floral character and fine-boned elegance that make Verduno so compelling.

This is a different proposition from the more generous and immediately comforting Barolo del Comune.
