Details

From our Importer: In a stunning area in northern Italy, situated between the Mediterranean, the plains and the mountains, for centuries the marquises of Spinola have been growing vines in a location with a special microclimate: they produce
Gavi, an outstanding DOCG white wine enjoyed all over the world today, from a native grape dating back to 1630.

The Spinola family traces its local roots back to the XI century and its name has been taken around the world by gallant condottieri, explorers and men of the cloth.

The Marchese Luca Spinola is part of the family’s centuries-old holdings: its special bond with the area is reflected in a profound knowledge of the wine-making tradition and respect for the earth and nature.

The wine: Don’t be deceived by the wine’s typical cloudy appearance: simply try it to be pleasantly surprised by an unexpected, medium dry flavour with a slight sparkle, a perfect accompaniment to every course of a meal as well as a delicious aperitif. Characteristics of the wine Organic wine Production area: Municipality of Tassarolo Alcohol by volume: 13.5 % Exposure: West Production: batches of 1,000 bottles produced with the ancestral method Organoleptic properties: a light persistent effervescence characterises this wine. An intense straw-yellow, with faint green highlights, it has a complex bouquet, with fruity notes accompanying floral tones. The flavour is fresh and lively, pleasantly citrus. Gastronomic accompaniments: an excellent aperitif. Goes well with finger food, sushi and light meals from international cuisine Technical notes: under the Ancestral method, the grapes are lightly pressed to extract the native yeasts in the fruit, and then fermented in stainless steel at a controlled, usually low, temperature. The fermentation is slowed and then stopped, to retain a sugar content sufficient to ensure that fermentation resumes in the bottle, without further additions of sugar and yeast. The enzymes and yeasts in the bottle inhibit the carbon dioxide, thereby creating a lightly sparkling wine, known in French as a “pétillant”.
