This wine is 100% Grenache from a single vineyard in Napa Valley. Coming from a region where Cabernet is king, this single vineyard perched on a mountain top, produces absolutely breathtaking Grenache, loaded with raspberry, white pepper, sage, bing cherry, and tobacco notes. Pair with grilled meats, and whole roasted poultry.

From the Winery:

Boz & Dominique Scaggs planted 2.2 acres to Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah & Counoise on their ranch at the northern crest of Mt Veeder in 1998. Situated on what was once a high valley lake; the soils are interspersed with gravely and Aiken loam deposits as you plunge the 300 vertical feet from top to bottom. One of the few remaining organic vineyards dedicated exclusively to these varietals in the Napa Valley, Scaggs is a cornerstone to our production, operating with the strong principles we hold dear. Boz transitioned the vineyard over to us, in its entirety in 2016. We look forward to working with this site for many years to come.

Enology The 2017 Grenache, picked on September 29th, was fermented as two separate lots. Lot 1, was destemmed entirely and fermented in a close top tank. The second pick, Lot 2, was fermented with 100% Whole Clusters in an open-top fermenter. Each lot was given our standard treatment and allowed to ferment with their own native yeasts. Total maceration lasted for 20 days. Following primary fermentation, élevage occurred in two 600L Stockinger demi-muids and one concrete egg. We found this combination quite suitable for the Grenache as both vessels heightened the wines final complexity and locked in a high-toned primary quality in the aromatics while preserving a great deal of tension and freshness on the palate. The wine was racked one time within a week of bottling on October 5th. The final wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
