from the winemakers:

The Yount Mill property is a throwback to Napa’s agrarian roots with vineyard origins that date back to the 1800s. It’s a vast 273-acre vineyard and a token Napa Valley postcard setting that resides just north of the town of Yountville. A visit here in spring will provide views of the one most vivid displays of mustard you will find anywhere in the world. Grenache occupies just 4 vine rows at Yount Mill – a site that would be considered a slightly ‘cooler planting zone’ for this sun-loving varietal – which tends to thrive in more hostile and hot climates.

Vintage & Vinification
We harvested our two tons in 2019 on September 20th at a potential alcohol of 13%. Native yeasts were used for the fermentation and whole clusters for half of the fermenting fruit. After 25 days on the skins the wine was barreled down and aged in two 600L neutral Stockinger Demi-Muids – a selection of barrels that showcased the vineyard’s expressive nature.

We bottled 126 cases of the 2019 Yount Mill Grenache in November of 2020 without fining or filtration.

Tasting Notes
The aromatics are explosive and reminiscent of those spring-time post card Napa Valley mustard blooms. This bottling is a perfect for the for the summer with its nervy, fresh tones and elegant textures. A little air and a slight chill will go a long way in enhancing your experience with the wine.
