100% Pinot Grigio from the single vineyard "Jesera", meaning "little lake" in Slovenian. The property is literally 1.5 miles from the Slovenian border in the town of Collio, in the Friuli region of Italy. Jesera was once part of an ancient sea bed, and lies at the base of a valley near a stream. An extended maceration time gives this wine its distinct cold color. It is mostly aged in stainless steel, but around 10% of the wine goes into large barrels for some added texture and roundness. This wine has a weight to it unlike any other Pinot Grigio and is reminiscent of the Spanish and Southern French whites we love for their fruitiness and dryness. Pair this with grilled sardines and a fresh Albanian salad.

From our Importer: The estate was founded in 1930 when Daniele Venica purchased Ronco del Cero in the Dolegna district of Collio. The winemaking adventures didn’t truly take off until 1977 when Gianni and Giorgio Venica - Daniele’s grandsons - took the reigns, immediately ensuring a promising future for the estate’s vines. The brothers’ passion was thanks to their father, who had willed the property to be an agricultural estate and always maintained a futuristic vision for the family’s activity. Georgio’s son, Giampaolo, has now stepped in and continues the family legacy with an incomparable verve and passion. A globetrotting spokesperson not only for Venica but for the entire region of Friuli, Giampaolo’s smile and passion for wine is known around the world.
