From our Importer: Weingut Wwe. Dr. Hugo Thanisch, Erben Thanisch, led by Sofia Thanisch, has a long tradition. It is documented that the wine estate dates back to 1636 and includes eleven generations.

The naming of our family as estate owners occurred 375 years ago, when Franz Taners and his wife, Apollonia, baptized their son, Helias. As a winegrower, Franz Taners was on a tax list from 1654 with an estimated fortune of 776 Reichstaler and an annual wine harvest of 3 Fuder casks.

Today, our Thanisch VDP wine estate is a family business in the eleventh generation. Our vineyards are located in Bernkastel, Kues, Lieser, and Brauneberg and are exclusively planted with Riesling. The most famous site is Berncasteler Doctor, which, along with many other vineyards, includes parcels that we have owned for 200 years, or 7 generations.

Since 1910, our wine estate was a founding member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates).
