100% Chardonnay. This brand new release from a favorite producer opens with a finely etched nose of green apple, lemon zest and white flowers, layered with chalk, flint and subtle notes of hazelnut and brioche. The palate is strikingly dry and precise, with vibrant acidity carrying flavors of citrus and orchard fruit through a taut, saline mineral core. Fine, restrained bubbles add texture rather than sweetness, while the finish is long, stony and quietly savory. The warm, dry 2019 vintage gives the wine a little more breadth and concentration, but it remains defined by Horiot’s characteristic freshness, tension and mineral clarity.

From our Importer: From one of the Côte des Bar’s most distinctive growers, Ailleurs is a tiny, single-parcel Blanc de Blancs that offers a fascinating alternative to the more familiar styles of Champagne. Olivier Horiot farms in Les Riceys, in the southern Aube, a region whose Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils and proximity to Burgundy give its wines a particularly vinous, mineral character. The Horiot family has been rooted in Les Riceys for generations, but Olivier established the domaine in its current form in 1999, with a focus on expressing individual sites and reviving Champagne’s historic grape varieties
