This edition of Selection Massale's 'Perfect Red' hails from Mateus Nicolau de Almeida in Baixo Corgo in the Douro region of Portugal. It is a red and white field blend of Tinto Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga France, Tinta Barroca, and Malvasia Fina. A short 10-day maceration with gentle extraction and aging entirely in tank, to preserve its simplicity and gentle fruit flavor. We would give this a slight chill and pair it with chicken tikka kebab, with a fresh tomato and cucumber salad.

From our Importer: Mateus is the fifth generation of the Nicolau de Almeida family to produce wine in the Douro. Together with his wife, Teresa Ameztoy, they work in a wine cellar they call Shad’s Winery (Alosa Alosa), named after the fish that crossed the Douro River from the Atlantic Ocean, a reality impossible today due to the construction of the dams. In this cellar, they give us different perspectives and approaches to the vineyard and wine, based on organic and biodynamic farming.
