Collection: The Barolo Direct Import Offer, Fall 2026

Vintage 2022: Delicious.

There is something remarkably appealing and delicious about these 2022 Piedmont wines in our Annual Direct Import Offer.

A dry growing season, our reliable reference from Berry Bros. & Rudd, Charlie Leech, once again comes through with particular insight and grace… As noted in his April 2026 Vintage Report, vineyards with older, deeply-rooted sites have already emerged with some very special wines.

In the hands of growers we have included herein, the result is simply lovely to drink: generous fruit, remarkable perfume, freshness, and a certain ease that makes the wines immediately inviting while still giving them ample flesh and bones promising greatness with some time in the Cellar. Indeed, this combination is what we love about traditional Nebbiolo: wines that can be serious without being severe, and elegant without feeling delicate.

These wines are DELICIOUS. Each producer herein brings something soulful and unmistakably their own. Fratelli Alessandria in Verduno gives us this wonderful northern Barolo character: fragrant, lifted, red-fruited and savory, with the kind of complexity that unfolds rather than announces. Francesco Rinaldi is another touchstone for traditional Barolo, and the ‘Brunate’ and ‘Cannubi’ bottlings offer two great Crus through a shared old school lens. Brunate shows depth and breadth; Cannubi leans toward perfume, finesse and silky Nebbiolo texture. Finally, there is Cristian Boffa, our freshest offering and, indeed, a maker who has not been offered here or nearly anywhere else, ever. His tiny production from La Morra feels particularly personal, special, and lovely. His are wines made on a small scale, with a real sense of the vineyards behind them, beautifully perfumed, generous with fruit, but never heavy from Eastern facing slopes. This Collection of Barolo reflect wholesome, honest character that makes you want to keep going back to the glass.

The Cantina del Pino Barbaresco, under Franca Vacca’s direction, completes our Direct Import Offer. The Vacca family has farmed in Barbaresco for generations, and their home in the Ovello vineyard gives the wine a lovely combination of fragrance, earth, red fruit and depth. Franca has taken over the winemaking following the passing of her husband, Renato Vacca, and there is something moving about tasting these wines now: they remain rooted in the family’s history while reflecting her own hand and sensibility.

Taken together, our Vintage 2022 Direct Import Offer remind us why we keep coming back to Piedmont. These wines manifest perfume, fruit, earth, texture and time built into them; they feel generous and alive, and the more time you spend with them, the more they seem to give back.
